OCTOBER'S ARTIST
Stephen Ray
A
wood worker and craftsman by trade and now a self taught artist,
Stephen Ray depicts Connecticut’s iconic weathered barns in acrylic
medium. The scenes are meant to reflect how the barns once appeared
in landscapes before being altered by the encroachment of so-called
progress. Stephen Ray records these dying symbols of America and
stimulates our memories of a simpler and in some ways, a more
rewarding way of life. Ray’s work is a tribute to the endurance of
these structures.
Using
his realistic and stark rendering style, Ray’s paintings highlight
the play of sunlight upon the lone subjects adrift in peaceful
fields throughout the seasons.
Stephen Ray has been most influenced and inspired by Gary Barsumian
and in particular Andrew Wyeth.
Ray has exhibited his works at many juried shows, including the ‘Mystic
Arts Festival’’ where he was awarded 3rd Prize in
acrylics for his first showing there in August of 2009. He followed
that up with a 1st Place Blue Ribbon win that covered all
media, at the September 2009 ‘Trumbull Arts & Crafts Festival’
for his barn images in acrylics. Stephen also hand crafts his own
frames to suit each of his works.
This
is a wonderful opportunity to invest in artist Stephen Ra’s works as
he is just being recognized as a unique talent emerging on the art
scene.

NOVEMBER'S ARTIST

Diane’s affinity with the ocean relates back to childhood, when most
of her summer days were spent playing in the surf off the beaches of
Long Island where she grew up.
She
started her career in art painting portraits in oil after studying
with renowned portrait painter Frank Covino. She still loves to
paint portraits, but, she claims – “to me…the ocean is even more
challenging, it is constantly moving and changing, it’s different
every time you look at it.”
Diane’s work has won numerous awards and is included in private
collections across the United States.
She
resides in Connecticut with her husband and two children. |
